COME

come away retreats mentees mentoring mentors Jan 09, 2018

by Nancy Lindgren

As I sat down and had intentional time with Jesus the last few days of 2017, I asked Him what my word for 2018 should be. I had some ideas that I was thinking about, but it’s amazing to watch Him specifically answer when I specifically ask.

He showed me a word that wasn’t on my list yet and all of the sudden it jumped off the pages afresh as I was reading through Isaiah:  COME.

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11_28.png

Maybe it’s because a few Christmas carols were still ringing in my ears . . . O Come, O Come Emmanuel and Joy to the World the Lord has Come . . . but all of the sudden this word came alive:

Suddenly, in an instant, the Lord Almighty will come . . . (Isaiah 29:6)

Your God will come . . .He will come to save you. (Isaiah 35:4)

They approach and come forward; each helps the other . . . (Isaiah 41:5)

I have stirred up one from the north and he comes . . . (Isaiah 41:25)

Let them all come together and take their stand . . . (Isaiah 44:11)

Gather together and come . . . (Isaiah 45:20)

I make known . . . what is still to come. (Isaiah 46:10)

Come near me and listen . . . (Isaiah 48:16)

Come out . . . and be free. (Isaiah 49:9)

Come out and  . . . and be pure. (Isaiah 52:11)

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters. (Isaiah 55:1)

Your light has come. (Isaiah 60:1)

Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down . . . (Isaiah 64:1)

All mankind will come and bow down before me . . . (Isaiah 66:23)

I have a deeper longing for God to come in His fullness, strength and power and I believe He longs for me to come to Him to give Him my surrendered life and to receive His rest, His freedom, His joy, and His peace.

I also love this word when it comes to mentoring. It really is both a mentee and a mentor taking a step towards each other, coming forward, coming available, coming teachable and inviting God to come and meet with you and oh what a powerful time it is. We experience that cord of three strands that is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

I don’t really like New Year’s Resolutions but I do like to have a focus for the year. Here are three areas I want to focus on in 2018:

1.     Come Near Days – with God - daily, weekly and monthly. Come near to God and he will come near to you. James 4:8

2.     Come Together Days - with mentors in my life - once a week so that I’m being poured into and prayed over. Then whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. Philippians 1:27

3.     Come Away Retreats – with mentees and mentors who I can pour into – 4 times in the next 6 months – the next one is January 27 if you are interested! (www.morementoring.org/come-awayArise, come away my darling; my beautiful one, come away with me! Song of Songs 2:13b

My prayer for you as you start out in this new year . . .

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. John 10:10
