When God Says Go

mentors movement obedience surrender trust Mar 20, 2020

By Nancy Lindgren

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” He said, “Go and tell . . .”  Isaiah 6:8-9

For the past 8 months, God has been speaking the word “GO” into my heart. It seems every time I’ve opened my Bible, that word has jumped out at me. I’ve been asking God what it means for me specifically. “Am I supposed to move? Where do you want me to go?”

Here is what I wrote in my journal a few weeks ago:

When God says go, it means:

  • Surrender – release and let go
  • Giving up my desire for my needs to be met (to be known, for community, for  encouragement)
  • Step out and follow in unwavering faith even though you don’t fully know where you are going or whether you will  see the results
  • Obedience always brings blessing
  • I have an Audience of One.  Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10
  • Not everyone will understand
  • The “Go” looks different for everyone

Exactly 2 months earlier as I was journaling, God spoke these words to me and I responded:

“Something hard is coming but I want you to know I am with you.”
My response: May it be to me as you have said. I am your servant. I don’t need to know what. I just need to know You.

“I need you to trust Me.”
My response: I do.

“I need you to walk closely with Me.”
My response: I will.

“I need you to cling to Me only.”
My response: I will.

“I need you to believe I am abundantly good.”
My response: Yes, You are Lord.

“I need you to know I’m preparing you in the fire.”
My response: Ok.

“I need you to surrender your plans.”
My response: I do.

“I need you to know that I will remain faithful forever.”
My response: I believe that with all my heart.

Then I wrote these simple words:
“OPEN THE FLOODGATES. HOLY SPIRIT – POUR OUT.”

It’s time to mobilize the mentors!

Mobilize means “preparing someone to spring into action or to be put into use.” The “going” or the “movement” begins with relationships.

As I’ve been dwelling in Acts 1-4 lately, the word “Together” has been illuminated even more in my heart. The early church prayed together, shared together, met needs together, fellowshipped together. They were physically together.

Since we can’t physically be together now, we need to look outside of our own homes, beyond our own churches, and throughout our cities. There is a world full of lonely, frightened, anxious people who desperately need Jesus.

Unlike the early church, we have technology to reach these people. A mentor is someone who comes alongside another and points that person to Jesus. What an opportunity we have in front of us to do that. We can make a phone call, Facetime with someone, or share on social media.  We can do what He is laying on our hearts to do!

None of us could have planned for the world coming to a screeching halt because of the coronavirus, but God saw it coming, and I believe He  has prepared us for this moment. Let’s not waste it!

Let’s be like Isaiah and say, “Here am I. Send me.” It’s time to spring into action and be put to use all for the glory of God.

“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Acts 2:17-21
